César Ruiz-Larrea

César Ruiz-Larrea Cangas (Madrid, 1950). Architect and town planner from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Madrid. He completed his training at the IAUS (New York) and in Barcelona. Professor at the ETSA Madrid for 25 years. Founder of the Asociación Sostenibilidad y Arquitectura, of the energy research laboratory RLAB and advisor to institutions, public bodies and private investors. He has received awards all over the world and is a guest lecturer and professor at the world’s leading universities and forums.  

In 1997 he founded Ruiz Larrea & Asociados, a pioneering studio in bioclimatic, sustainable and industrialised architecture. His projects, widely referenced, propose radical reductions in energy demand and a commitment to people’s comfort.  

These include the refurbishment of the Gijón and Oviedo architects’ associations, the National Renewable Energy Centre, the National Statistics Institute, the Andalusian Energy Agency, the headquarters of Sogecable, the Solar Hemicycle, the refurbishment of Torre Cibeles (Bank of Spain) and the Castellana 19 house-palace, and the Madrid EDITION luxury hotel.
