Philippe Capelier

Co-Director of the UIA Social Habitat Work Program

He began his architectural studies in Montpellier in 1974 and wanted to combine in his thesis his two passions, music and architecture in the project “Architecture Musicale” (“Musical Architecture”), an introduction to the aesthetic relationship between music and architecture. 

He later studied at CEA Acoustique Architectural Acoustics in Grenoble (France) and later created his own architecture studio called Blue Tango. 

During the following years he has been associate professor and lecturer at the School of Architecture of Montpellier (ENSAM) and president of the Regional Council of the Order of Architects of Languedoc-Roussillon, among other positions. 

In 1998 he created his own architectural firm called Blue Tango and in 2007 he obtained the certificate of competence in environmental management for architecture and sustainable development of Mediterranean territories at the School of Architecture of Montpellier. 

Since 2018, he has been the director of the UIA Social Habitat work program and is in charge of leading a working group of 22 architects from 5 continents for the creation of a world observatory of social housing. In addition, he participated in the UIA International Congress in Baku in June 2019 since 2017 he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Architects in Paris.
